Getting your site to stack up in Google’s new search for mobile responsive website design
Google has just changed the way its search results work on smartphones and tablets. So what? Might not sound like a big deal – but it is.
This is a trend towards favouring mobile devices such as iPhones and tablets, and is a massive game changer for website design – and possibly your website too.
Going forward if your website is not “mobile-friendly” (a.k.a. responsive website design) – then your site probably will not get into future Google search results.
Google now ranks highly sites that have a responsive design, have quick loading times, and optimisation like buttons and interfaces which are easy to read, and work well on smaller screens.
Quick Facts:
- More than 60% of Aussie online traffic now comes from mobile
- Websites that aren’t mobile-friendly will get demoted
- Google rates ‘responsive websites’ highly
What this means for you…
In short, if your website is not mobile-friendly your rankings could suffer in mobile search results. If your business relies on traffic from search engines, you should strongly consider investing in making your website mobile-friendly. This need not be a reinvention of the wheel – we’ve already converted existing sites over with a minimal fuss (e.g. www.mlrslateroofing.com.au) – feel free to check it out on your mobile device and see how a mobile-friendly site looks and works.
Chances are if you have a website that relies on mobile traffic sources, and your site is not responsive – it’s already harming your business. But this Google change is the final reason to make the move to a responsive design.
